Younger – TV Show

It’s funny that I’m now 40 and I found this TV show called Younger. I actually never knew this show and I was scrolling through Netflix shows and got curious of the title. Maybe it called out to me because of a slow impending mid-life crisis that I’m feeling right now. Watched the first episode and I got hooked.

Sutton Foster as Liza Miller in Younger

However, the casting does imply that you need to suspend reality a bit as the lead female played by Sutton Foster isn’t exactly 27 looking. But she does look “younger” (see what I did there?). The premise is basically a 40 year old woman experiences a life changing moment (divorce) and is braving the employment line. The show kicks off because Liza Miller gets mistaken as a millennial by one another 40 year old woman. This is where the casting choices, the clothing and character help contrast their ages to make the story a bit believable.

Diana Trout played by Miriam Shor is just 4 years older than Sutton Foster. But with a bit of make up magic and clever dialogue, they’ve managed to play off Liza as a 27 year old. The show Younger revolves around how Liza can keep up the charade which isn’t that much as somehow her social development stopped in her 20s right after getting married and having a kid.

Some spoilers after this.

Eternity – Another Afterlife Movie

What if you can choose your Eternity after you die? The catch is, you can only choose one, with the one spouse you can spend forever with? Seems like a wonky plot but just turn off a couple of braincells to enjoy the movie. It does bear some resemblance to the k-drama series called Heavenly Ever After. I’ll be reviewing that Netflix tv series soon.

Eternity Does Another Spin on Afterlife with the Love of your Life

Elizabeth Olsen as Joan

The plot of the show is simple. Larry and Joan has spent the last 60 years or so of married life in constant bickering. Joan is revealed to have terminal cancer which Larry keeps as a secret from the rest of the family. During a gender reveal party, Larry unfortunately passes away while choking on a pretzel. *Seriously, no one there knew how to do a Heimlich maneuver???* We’re then shown the first view of what happens in the afterlife and the rules that run the place.

The movie stars A-listers Elizabeth Olson with equally famous Miles Teller and the hunky Callum Turner.

Miss Night and Day – Netflix

Netlix released a fun k-drama last year called Miss Night and Day. The main character features one of my favorite Korean actresses, Lee Jung-eun. She’s a versatile actress that is rocking whatever role she has. She can be considered a pillar of Korean showbiz landing role after role at 55 years old. She can play the underdog character to a villain so easily.

Lee Jung-en as Im Sun, the missing aunt

To give an overview of this show, you have Jung Eun-ji as Lee Mi-jin. She is a frustrated adult with dreams of entering professional work force, especially government work. However, she continually fails the exams. She feels the pressure as she’s already 28 and still living with her parents. This might be a foreign concept in western societies, but in some asian societies like Korea, it’s a big embarrassment to continue living with parents and be unemployed.

Miss Night and Day Spoilers After the Jump

Mi-jin just came back from another failure when certain events lead to her meeting a magical cat and somehow waking up in the morning as another person, Im Sun, her missing aunt. Somehow, she becomes her aunt during the day and returns to normal at night time. What started out as a curse to Mi-jin, turns into a blessing in disguise. Apparently, due to some government initiative, Mi-jin as Sun gets hired as an intern in the government. This leads to a literal double life of Mi-jin. Intern Sun by day, misfit Mi-jin at night.

However, questions remain. Why does she turn into her aunt during day time? Mi-jin continued to wonder why and raced against time as certain people are interested in the return of Sun.
