Reading Game Changer

Fine, the curiosity got the better of me and I started reading Game Changer by Rachel Reid. I will be honest, the book would be something I would read in my younger years before life destroyed any romanticism left in my body.

However, seeing the handsome François Arnaud as Scott Hunter piqued my interest. No, I haven’t watched tbe series yet. But I have seen that François’s Scott Hunter is only shown in episode 3.

Back to the book, the writing itself isn’t extraordinary (sorry Rachel), but it’s definitely better than the first person POV books that were so popular in the 90s to early 2000s. There’s more dialogue though than setting the scene. It’s not a deal breaker but it kind of read like a comic book but without illustrations.

I think I’m suffering from reader’s dysfunction *wink*, because I used Rachel’s writing would have been enough to make me imagine the characters and scene easily. That’s why I said Game Changer would be something I would read when I still had the whimsies.

However, with the introduction of François as Scott and seeing a few viral clips, reading Rachel Reid’s book has become easier. I’m able to picture the story now. It doesn’t matter if Scott was described as blonde, François nails the role well.

Don’t let my initial review dissuade you from reading Game Changer. I’m just a bit wonky right now due to midlife crisis.

François Arnaud just looks wholesome hot!

Congrats to his success and I will be avidly following his shows from now on.

Should I Watch Heated Rivalry?

Saw this blow up in social media.

The Disappointments (Youtube)

Move aside Looking, The Disappointments are here. It’s kind of coincidental or maybe fate that my youtube algorithm showed this gay webseries in my timeline. It’s about three gay men navigating midlife crisis. It’s almost like the tv show Looking. Except, in my opinion, this show is a bit more relatable. Maybe I’m biased because the lead actor is a hot daddy. But once upon a time, I was also in a gay trio. And it’s funny how it’s the same stereotype in a gay trio. At least from what I’ve seen in shows like Looking, Where the Bears Are, The Disappointments and a few others I just forgot.

The Gay Trio of Disappointments

Just a little bit of backstory of my gay trio. It was composed of the hot but always breaking up one, the sexually promiscuous one, and the gay disaster one. And, well… I was the gay disaster of the trio. Long story. It’s kind of the same in Looking and in the Disappointments.

While the show tackles a lot of story lines, it does revolve a bit on the unfortunate death of a close friend. The ex of the lead actor played by Rich Burns (above picture on the right). Trigger warning: the series will be talking about suicide. Please avoid this show or reach out to a professional who can help you if something like this disturbs you.

Anyway, The Disappointments is free in youtube. It’s one of those rare gems that are highly entertaining. It’s been a while since I last saw a high quality gay webseries on youtube. Where the Bears Are was fun but then they went mainstream and the other seasons and episodes were optioned by some production company. I still did my best to support them by purchasing their work but I lived in the Philippines that time and purchasing the show took almost half my month salary.

Still, this webseries seems to be a self-publication by Rich Burns and his friends. The first season ended 4 years ago and The Disappointments season 2 will be released in the next few weeks according to Rich. I look forward to it!
